Why Marrakech for your wedding

The Red City holds what a destination wedding needs in one place: direct flights from most European capitals, hotels able to host a hundred and eighty guests, and craftsmen, lantern makers, zellige setters, musicians, who have worked weddings for generations.

Three practical reasons couples choose it over anywhere else in Morocco:

• Everything is close. The airport, the medina, the Palmeraie and the Agafay desert sit within forty minutes of each other. Guests move between the welcome dinner, the ceremony and the farewell brunch without long transfers.
• The venues are used to multi-day celebrations. A Hindu or Sikh wedding runs over three days. Marrakech hotels and riads are built for it, with the space, the kitchens and the staff.
• The light. Sandstone walls turn amber then gold in the late afternoon. It is the reason photographers come here, and the reason our couples keep asking for outdoor ceremonies.

The Oberoi Marrakech

Tranquil canals, centuries-old olive groves and the Atlas Mountains on the horizon. Four of our weddings took place here: Mahek & Jay, a Sikh Anand Karaj; Meera & Rohit, with a custom mandap suspended over the water; Rusna & Stel, a Sikh and Greek celebration; and Komi & Angus.

Palais Ronsard

A palace set among lush gardens, versatile enough for an intimate ceremony or a large reception. Caroline & Reda married here, mixing Moroccan tradition with American touches.

Ksar Char-Bagh

A Moorish palace in the Palmeraie, with forty hectares of palm grove. Rhea & Siva celebrated a South Indian wedding here, with a lotus throne and a mandap floating above water.

Beldi Country Club

Rose gardens, olive trees and low brick pavilions, fifteen minutes from the medina. Two of our weddings took place here: Jeanne & Billy and Pamela & Ricardo.

La Mamounia

One of the most recognised hotels in the world, close to the airport and to Jemaa el-Fna. Royal gardens, two hundred and nine rooms, three riads and a spa. A setting for large, formal celebrations.

Royal Mansour

Commissioned by King Mohammed VI. Fifty-three private riads across four hectares of orange gardens. Chosen for privacy above all.

Selman Marrakech

Designed by Jacques Garcia, at the foot of the Atlas. A seventy-five-metre pool, and the owner’s Arabian horses in the gardens.

Kasbah Bab Ourika

An hour from the city, on a ridge above the Ourika valley. For couples who want the mountains rather than the medina.

As your wedding planner in Marrakech we work in-house: creative direction, production and on-the-day delivery are handled by the same team, in English, French and Arabic.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should we book a wedding in Marrakech?

Twelve to eighteen months for a celebration of more than a hundred guests, particularly in spring and autumn when the best venues are taken first. A wedding planner in Marrakech will usually hold two or three venues while you decide. Below thirty guests the timeline is far shorter, and a private riad can often be secured within a few months.

When is the best season to marry in Marrakech?

March to May and September to November. Spring gives the fullest gardens and snow still on the Atlas, and it books first, often a year ahead. October is the quieter favourite: the heat has broken and the light lasts. Summer is genuinely hot and works only if the day starts late, with a ceremony at seven and dinner at nine; winter is cool and bright, the least expensive season and the easiest for securing a first-choice venue, provided the celebration is built around interiors and fire. How many days should the celebration run?

Three nights suits most guest lists. Two feels rushed for a journey of four hours or more, and four asks a great deal of people with jobs and children. The usual shape is a welcome evening, the wedding day itself, and an unhurried last morning. That third day is the one guests remember and the first one couples cut; we would keep it. Can we hold the wedding in the desert?

Yes, and it is extraordinary, but the Agafay has no mains power, no water and no permanent kitchen: everything is built, supplied and removed again, and the temperature drops sharply after dark. The structure that works for most couples is a wedding with one desert night in it rather than a wedding held entirely there.
